Roll Of Honour

Newton Abbot Roll of Honour
Last night we held our long awaited 'Roll of Honour' evening.
Over the last few months we have been collating the names of all those people who have been on call firefighters at the current Newton Abbot Fire Station. This then turned out to coincide with the 45th anniversary of the opening of the station. Oct 1972.
Along with around 50 serving crew and former colleagues we were joined by Ann Jones the town mayor. Sara Randall-Johnson the chair of the fire authority, Ron Peart, fire authority member and Kingsteignton town mayor and Assistant Chief Fire Officer Glenn Askew. Our local Group Manager Gerald Taylor also supported the event.
After a few formalities to unviel (remove the fire tunic from the plaque) present a couple of certificates (town council recognition of over 30 years service) and remember those no longer with us, we had a great night reminiscing.
A special thank you has to go to Benbows who allowed FF Gary Robinson time to build the plaque. Also our former colleague from Paignton Fire Station, Graham Isaac for bringing his fire appliance for the back drop of our group photo. We had this type of appliance when the station opened. If you want to hire it for special occasions please contact him.
The cake was make by another former colleague Brian Underhill thanks Brian it was lovely.
In the group photo we worked out that between us all, we had 708 years experience and service to the community of Newton Abbot and surrounding areas.
Thanks to all who attended an amazing evening.
