Newton Abbot Community Open Day 2010
Residents from Newton Abbot will have an opportunity to meet their local firefighters and fire cadets at the Newton Abbot Community open day Saturday, 2 September 2010 between 10.00 and 16.00.
The open day held at Newton Abbot fire station, promises to be great fun for all the family, offering a full itinerary of demonstrations and live displays.
The day to include:
Fire and safety advice
Road safety awareness
Demonstrations from the fire fighters and fire cadets
The ambulance station on site will be open to visitors
The police will also be attending
Refreshments will be available as well as a variety of stalls and a raffle.
The fire fighters will also be holding a 24 hour sponsored marathon event on a cross trainer while wearing full breathing apparatus. They will start on Friday 1 October at 18:00 and finish on Saturday 2 October at 18:00.
This community open day is free and everyone is welcome.

We have great pleasure in passing on the outcome of our Open Day held at Newton Abbot Fire Station on Saturday 2nd October. We raised a total of £6426.17. This total included £889.00 from the Fire Fighters benevolent fund shop, £136.05 from the Fire Cadet Cake stall and £5401.12 was raised from collections held over the 24 hour period and the raffle and other stalls. A total of £5401.12 will be divided equally between the Fire Fighters charity and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Our target was to raise £2,000 so as you can imagine we were overwhelmed with emotion when we received the final figure. Many of our fire fighters had only a few hours sleep over the 24 hour period whilst taking part in the
